Kylo Ren is the Hero, Rey is the Villain
That’s right. I said it. “But, how? Kylo killed Han!!” I hear you all screaming at me through cyberspace.
The Force Awakens Copies The OG Trilogy
So, yeah. There’s a new Death Star. There’s a light saber battle in the snow. The bad guy wears black, and the hero is a kid on a desert planet. Now, how did the original series end? That’s right. The villain, Darth Vader, turned out to be the hero that beats the actual villain, the Emperor. Just sayin’. That could totally happen here.
Kylo Ren is the Hero
The big thing that supports such a bold statement is when Kylo is looking at the helmet of Darth Vader. In his musings, he says that he will finish what Vader started. As already mentioned, Vader dispatches the Emperor by way of one of the myriad of holes in the Star Wars universe. Seriously, people are forever falling into holes and pits and such. Anyway…What if the thing Kylo means to finish is ending the Sith. This means he has to get close to his Sith master, Snoke. What better way to do that than by killing his father? Murdering Han shows his dedication to the dark side. This will allow him to get close enough to harm Snoke without raising suspicion. He even tells Han that line about knowing what he must do, but not being sure if he can do it. Kylo is torn by what he knows it will take to secure his place with Snoke.
Rey is the Villain
Just as Kylo Ren’s character will flip sides, so too shall Rey. In time, we will come to find out she is the child of a Jedi, like maybe Obi-Wan Kenobi. Because the Jedi have that whole, “no family” thing, Kenobi leaves her on a planet away from the prying eyes of the Empire. When she learns that she had to be all alone due to some archaic rule… There’s only so much a person can take before they go over the edge. I figure this revelation will come in her training with Luke. Remember the time he saw Vader in that tree/tunnel thing while training with Yoda? Rey will find out the truth about her past in a similar fashion.
Also, pay attention to the voices of Star Wars. Many of the Imperials have English accents…Just like Rey. The production didn’t opt to have her change her voice or conceal her accent. The same can’t be said of John Boyega, who plays Finn. He’s English also, but was directed to use a more American sounding accent for the film.
The Final Battle
In the climax of The Force Awakens is a battle between Kylo Ren and Rey. Here we see a Sith trained force user get positively owned by a person who only just found out she is force sensitive. This just shouldn’t happen, unless it’s to set up our expectations of a battle later. Now that we know Rey can best Kylo, it will be that much of a harder task for him to beat her once their roles have reversed. On top of that, by the time they meet again, Rey will have gotten some training in with Luke. Now, the final battle between them will be be with a Sith trained hero and a Jedi trained villain.
“Yeah, But He Still Killed Han!”
I know, I know. Let’s not forget, Vader isn’t exactly an angel, but he still found redemption. Not only did he green light using the Death Star to wipe out whole planets of life, but he pretty much eviscerated the Tuskens over his mother’s death, too. Oh, and what about the time he killed (gasp!), younglings? I’m just saying, in the world of Star Wars, anyone can be saved. Although Kylo Ren did a horrible thing to his father, Ben Solo can still be saved. Just as Darth Vader did some awful things, yet Anakin Skywalker was able to be redeemed.

This can be a lot to digest all at once. If it wasn’t, and you want a little more, check out our post about the theory that Rey is a Kenobi here. If you agree or disagree with us, leave your take in the comments section!
