Rey…Antilles?
Antilles? Really?
That’s right. I said Antilles, as in Wedge Antilles. I know it sounds crazy. Maybe not Jar Jar is a Sith Lord crazy, but crazy none the less. Keep reading to get the skinny on why Rey from The Force Awakens could be a child from The Antilles family.
Pilot Skills
Wedge Antilles is largely known as a pilot from the OG trilogy. He has has some major accolades associated with his name, including being the only other survivor from Luke Skywalker’s squadron following the destruction of the Death Star. He also was the first pilot to trip up an AT-AT in the battle on Hoth. Also, the second Death Star was destroyed by Lando Calrissian and, none other than, Wedge Antilles. In The Force Awakens, Rey demonstrates some uncanny pilot skills. This could be because flying runs in the family. How else does one just cruise through the husk of a crashed Star Destroyer in something the size of the Millennium Falcon?
Rey’s Keepsakes
As we see Rey go about her business on Jakku, some little souvenirs stand out more than others. Rey has a doll. It looks to be handmade. One can determine from the telltale orange jumpsuit and white chest piece that the doll clearly represents a Rebel pilot. Also, just before Rey hears BB-8 in distress, she is sitting in the shade of an AT-AT’s foot wearing a Rebel pilot’s helmet. There is clearly a landscape of debris from both the Imperial and Rebel forces, yet Rey chooses to identify as a Rebel.
The Force
The greatest argument against Wedge Antilles being Rey’s father is that she is such a powerful force user. What if I told you that Wedge has use of the force as well? He may not be have been diagnosed as being force sensitive, but how else can you explain his skills as a pilot? He’s not just talented, like Poe Dameron. He’s extraordinarily talented. Wedge could get by on talent to survive one of the incursions he’s been party to. But, to successfully be a major participant in three of the most significant operations in the original trilogy… Come on! Try and tell me he’s not got some force power going on. I dare you! The bottom line is Rey has inherited her force sensitivity from her father, Wedge Antilles.
