How to Time Travel in Avengers:Endgame

But, first-

I’m going to make a grand assumption and pretend that you’ve already seen all the Marvel movies. If you haven’t, be prepared for some sticky, spoilery goodness. Not that all spoilers are good, but you should know what you’re getting into, here. So, without any further ado, here’s the Reel Theories take on how time travel will save the day in Avengers: Endgame.

Why Time Travel?

Because, it’s gotta be time travel, right? By the end of Infinity War, half of the everybody, everywhere is dusted, so…you gotta go back to undo that kind of damage. Sure, the remaining heroes can still find a way to defeat the villain, Thanos. I’m just not sure if the world at large could live with an ending that doesn’t give us back our full roster of heroes.

Outside of the Movies*

Real quick, we’re all catching hints from things that aren’t the actual movie, aren’t we? For example, there have been spin-offs announced recently that are a bit of a give away. Shows like Falcon and Winter Soldier, and WandaVision have already been confirmed for Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, as well as a show featuring everyone’s favorite trickster, Loki. This has to mean that our fallen heroes are going to make a come back. Not everything can be a prequel. Also, the trailers for Endgame, as well as the line up of toys being merchandised, show a variety of characters in “Quantum Realm” suits.

Speaking of the Quantum Realm

At the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp, we see Scott Lang head into the aforementioned quantum realm. Just before he goes in, Janet Van Dyne warns him not to mess around with “time vortexes.” Once in, the snap happens and Scott is stuck in the quantum realm.

By the way, in the feature, Hank Pym and Hope Van Dyne build that facility that can open a door to the quantum realm. By the end of the show, we see Scott going under via a contraption loaded in the back of a van. So, now, not only is there tech that can access the quantum, but it’s fairly portable, too.

Anyway, like I was saying. Now, Scott is trapped in the quantum realm and his team is dusted by the snap. That one line of dialog about “time vortexes” seems to indicate that he’s going to find his way out by using time travel. Not too shabby for a guy that everyone must assume was snapped to death. All this time that he’s missing in the quantum realm, nobody even knows he’s alive. That means he can move about through time without drawing any undue attention.

Speaking of Being Dead

There is another of our beloved heroes who isn’t done saving the day. The Sorcerer Supreme looked into the future to find a way to defeat Thanos and came up with only one solution. Then, he gave the Time Stone to Thanos, said, “We’re in the endgame, now”, and shortly thereafter turned to dust.

Let me repeat that.

He gave the Time Stone to Thanos.

As the Mad Titan went around collecting the various Infinity Stones, he sometimes had to destroy whatever carrier they were bonded to. Carriers like the Tesseract, or… Vision… But, in the case of the Time Stone, Doctor Strange kept its carrier, the Eye of Agamotto, intact. He gave the loose stone to Thanos. This means that if the Time Stone can be recovered, it can be reinserted into the Eye of Agamotto and once again used by the good guys to manipulate time. I know, I know. Steven Strange fell victim to the snap. Who then can wield the Eye of Agamotto? Maybe his trusted pal, Wong? Maybe singer, Cher? “If I could turn back tiiime!” Maybe they bring back the Ancient One to do the deed. I don’t know, people! I don’t know! I’m not saying, I’m just saying.

tl;dr

It’s so much, right? Yeah, well, it’s been ten years in the making. So, time travel could be the thing because Ant-Man has access to “time vortexes” in the quantum realm and Doctor Strange made sure to protect the Eye of Agamotto, thus allowing the Time Stone to be put back into it.

That’s all we’ve come up with in the Reel Theories think tank. The new movie comes out tomorrow. Everyone is super excited. It’s being called the end of an era, but there are still so many great stories to be told. There’s all those new shows we mentioned, too. Everything written here could be incorrect and it would be fine. The Russo Brothers haven’t steered us wrong yet. As always, do you, the fans, agree or disagree? Yes? No? Maybe so? Leave your take in the comments below.

Yeah, we’re all going to see it tomorrow, so, comments, sure. No worries about spoilers here.
