The Mandalorian Season Two

The Mandalorian – Season 2 The Yodalorian? Mandoyodian?

The Mandalorian

Season two of The Mandalorian will have it’s work cut out if it has any hope of topping the thrill ride of season one. We met our titular hero and went for an incredible journey as he forged a new path for himself and met a host of characters, both good and bad, along the way. By now, you’ve probably already seen our theory on the influence Baby Yoda has in the show. If not, check it out here. Although the premise of that theory is strong, one thing about it is the weakest link. By the time the Mandalorian goes to rescue the Child from the Client, he’s been away from the effect of Baby Yoda long enough that it shouldn’t have any hold on him. This is because, despite being a hardened Mandalorian warrior, he is a good guy, and can’t leave Baby Yoda in harms way. Although the Client never mentions what his intentions are towards the Child, certainly we, the audience, and Mando both shared the same feeling that without intervention, bad things would be in Baby Yoda’s future.

Baby Yoda

Even though the show is called The Mandalorian, the real star is Baby Yoda. The Child is half of the Clan of Two that we have been following on the adventure of, The Mandalorian. Where the Mandalorian excels at his use of force, The Child brings his use of the force. On a side note, when Baby Yoda helped Mando out with the mudhorn, Mando didn’t seem too terribly shocked. I’m not suggesting that Mando expected it, just that he came to grips with the reality of his situation pretty fast.

The Clan of Two

The Clan of Two is the principle that the fates of Mando and the Child are intertwined. As such, Mando has a mandate to deliver the Child to its people. Until he accomplishes this task, Mando has to raise the Child as a foundling of his own. This leaves the door open for all kinds of great “in between” moments for the pair. Imagine Baby Yoda picking up on Mando’s no nonsense attitude. Likewise, imagine what the Mandalorian will learn from Baby Yoda.

The Hybrid of the Two

As mentioned earlier, Mando is a good person. He is compelled to help the Child. Now, this doesn’t have to be the influence of Baby Yoda on him. It could also be a “feeling” that he gets and follows. Anyone who has seen The Rise of Skywalker knows what it means when a character has a “feeling.” Yes. I’m suggesting that the Mandalorian could end up being force sensitive. This brings us back to the idea that Mando wasn’t stunned at Baby Yoda using the force to stop the mudhorn. Even though memory seems to be a short thing in the Star Wars universe, it’s clear to us that the Mandalorian has heard of people using the force. As he spends time with the Child, he could get more open to how the force works. Likewise, as the Child spends time with Mando, he could learn to protect himself by employing the Mandalorian’s greatest asset, his skill as a tactician.

Why Does a Hybrid Make Sense?

The best support to this theory is that the darksaber shows up. This is an ancient Mandalorian artifact. It was held by the first and only Mandalorian to be trained as a Jedi, Tarre Vizsla. By the end of the final episode in season one, the character Moff Gideon reveals that he has the darksaber in his possession. Why does all this matter? It matters because one does not introduce a weapon such as this, unless the hero will eventually wield it. Mando is a great fighter, possibly from Jedi like precognition, but will excel with the darksaber if he is one with the force. Another aspect to consider is force power. We’ve seen Baby Yoda use levitation, as well as force healing. We’ve also seen the Child employ a force choke on Cara Dune. This has always been a Sith power. Baby Yoda has access to both the light and dark sides of the force. Will this trait carry over to the Mandalorian?

The Short Version

Season two of The Mandalorian will reveal a new Mandalorian who is a cross between Mandalorian warrior and force user. It is likely that our protagonist is familiar with the ways of the force from the legend of Tarre Vizsla. Spending time with the Child will be crucial in a “teacher/student” way for Mando. Historically, one only had grounds to carry the darksaber if they could best the current owner in combat. The finale of season two will probably have a showdown between Mando and Moff Gideon. In this battle, Mando will be able to get the weapon away from Moff Gideon, possibly by way of Sith powers. Then, darksaber in hand, the Mandalorian will defeat Moff Gideon, thus becoming the rightful owner of the coveted blade.
