The Black Widow Film Needs This Moment

We’re Thinking Maybe End-Credits

Hello, film fans and movie theorists! It’s the beginning of July 2021 and we are days away from the Black Widow solo film. Of course, here at the Reel Theories offices, this means it’s time for some speculation. After much deliberation, we’ve decided that one crucial moment needs to occur. Factors that weighed in include the complete cinematic history of the character, ideas about where the franchise is going next, and lastly, what we just wanna see. So, without any further ado…

The Scene

We fade from black to see Natasha in an old warehouse. She is removing traces of herself from a newly completed mission. In the background, a character appears, out of focus. As the focus shifts, we see that a Skrull has entered the warehouse. Natasha sees she is cut off from the exit to the warehouse and wastes no time in attacking the Skrull. No matter who, or what, this is, she cannot leave them able to verify her being in the warehouse.

As the fight rages on, three more Skrulls enter the warehouse. Crates are uncovered and broken. Though she fights valiantly, under the pressure of the four super powered assailants, Natasha is rendered unconscious, her body in the middle of the room, on the floor. The first Skrull turns to the other three and grumbles, “I had it under control.” The second Skrull responds, “There’s no time.” Just then, footsteps are heard approaching. An agent enters the warehouse. He comes in and addresses Natasha, “The car is taken care of. I’ll see you at exfil.”

The camera turns to reveal Black Widow in the warehouse as before, the crates back where they were, covers and all. She tells him, “Go. I’m right behind you.” As the agent exits, the camera turns to reveal Natasha, hidden by Skrulls who took the form of crates. Skrull Natasha shows her true face as she refers to actual Natasha and tells her accomplices, “Get her out of here.” Just then, a phone rings. Skrull Natasha retrieves a cell phone from Black Widow’s belt and answers it. She says, “Yes. Ok, Budapest. What’s the contacts name? Barton? I’ll find him.” We then see Skrull Black Widow return to the stolen face of Natasha Romanoff. Fade to black.

Why This Works

The best reason this works is because of how it ends. All these years, Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, and Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, have shared a cryptic back and forth about their time in Budapest. This calls back to all those references.

Reason number two that this is so juicy is that it gives us a glimpse into how the Skrulls operate. We would get to see them in their true lizard like form, a la Captain Marvel. We would also be shown their ability to not only replicate people, but things, too.

Lastly, this idea that Natasha was replaced by a Skrull, before she ever met Hawkeye, would tie in to the existing canon of the MCU. This means that the entire time Clint knew Nat, she was a Skrull. Following this line of reasoning, when Clint and Nat go to retrieve the Soul Stone, the sacrifice that is made is still genuine. Whether she is a Skrull or a human, she has an undeniable bond to Clint Barton. The assumption here is that he is so heartbroken at the loss of his closest friend that he never looks back to her corpse to see that, in death, she has revealed herself to have the form of a Skrull.

In Conclusion

There it is! That’s the Reel Theories concept for a great end-credits sequence. In the comics, nobody ever really dies. Keeping that in mind, we love the idea of being able to bring Black Widow back to the MCU. Don’t forget, some Skrulls are like sleeper agents that don’t even know they’re Skrulls! What do you think? Is this a great theory? Yes? No? Maybe so? Let us know in the comments below! Thanks for being a fan and we’ll see you in the next great theory from Reel Theories!
